My Story

Learn about my journey, passion, and commitment to capturing life's beautiful moments through photography.

Hey, I’m James

I was born and raised in Cambridge and now live in Papworth Everard, where I’m based while covering the wider Cambridgeshire area. Being local gives me a strong connection to the landscapes, people, and character of the region, allowing me to capture familiar places from a fresh perspective. Whether working close to home or exploring new locations, I enjoy telling honest stories through my photography.

I joined the British Army in 2007 and served for 10 years with the 1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment (The Mighty Vikings). During my service, I travelled to many extraordinary places and completed two operational tours in Afghanistan. Experiencing the good, the bad, and the ugly during this time became my main inspiration behind my passion for photography.

Photography has been a personal passion of mine for the past eight years, during which I’ve continuously explored composition, lighting, and visual storytelling at an amateur level. Some days, I love to grab my camera and see what I can capture—whether it’s wandering through Cambridge, finding beauty at home, or exploring new and exciting places.

This is where James Brunning Photography was born - a quiet space for reflection and creativity. What started with sharing videos on YouTube naturally grew into capturing and sharing meaningful moments through photography, now shared on Instagram and Facebook. It’s a gentle way of holding onto memories, telling stories, and finding beauty in everyday life.

I am currently at a point in my life where I am ready to bring together everything I have learned and transform it into a professional creative service. Through a blend of creativity, technical skill, and artistic vision, I aim to produce thoughtful, high-quality photoshoots that are not only visually beautiful but also meaningful and tailored to each client.
